Scala

Scala is a statically-typed, high-level, general-purpose programming language designed to be concise and fix Java's problems.

Scala code can run on a JVM, transpiled to JavaScript to run on the Web, or compiled directly using Clang.

History

The design of Scala started in 2001 at a public research university, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, in Lausanne, Switzerland by Martin Odersky. After an internal release in 2003, Scala was released publicly in early 2004. A second version was released in March 2006.

Example Code

The following code prints hello world to the terminal window

@main def main() = println("Hello, world!")
