Dart

Dart is an object-oriented, garbage-collected programming language with C-style syntax designed by Lars Bak and Kasper Lund. It can compile to machine code, JavaScript, or WebAssembly.

History

On 10 October 2011, Dart was unveiled to the public by its designers Lars Bak and Kasper Lund. Dart 1.0 was released on 14 November 2013.

Dart 2.0 was released on August 2018 with many changes including a type system. In November 2019, Dart 2.6 added a new extension, dart2native, extending native compilation to Linux, macOS, and Windows.

Dart 3.0 was released in May 2023, with changes to require null safety. It also added features such as records, patterns, and class modifiers. Dart 3.4 added support for compilation to WebAssembly.

Syntax

Dart uses C-style syntax, and a class-based approach. Dart belongs to the ALGOL language family, with members such as C, Java, JavaScript, and others.

void main() {
    print('Hello, world!');

    for (int i = 1; i <= 10; i++) {
        print(i);
    }
}
